Safety. A primary goal
A critical point for ensuring a clean and safe indoor atmosphere is to consider the combustibility of the dust generated. Because it is very explosive, some powder coating booths even have a spark detector with a fire extinguisher. But regardless of this prevention system, NFPA compliant dust collectors with deflagration risk prevention systems such as relief valves or explosion panels are required.
Ensuring a proper dust filtration system for cost savings
Apart from the dust collector, the filtration media itself plays a key role in efficient dust removal. Common media filtration such as polyester will not be efficient enough to remove the fine dust particles generated in this application. Nanofiber media is necessary to ensure a proper particle removal.
Additionally, considering that the powder coating process consists of applying an electrostatic charge to the surface being treated, the dust generated will be electrified too, and therefore the cartridges used need to be earthed to remove this electrical charge and avoid a potential explosion.
Dust collection in a powder coating application also has an operational and cost related goal, as the product captured from the atmosphere can be reused, resulting in cost savings.
